A homosexual man who engages in anal penetration as his default sex act. The analist lifestyle was popularized during the sexual revolution among gay club scenes in major American cities such as San Francisco and New York City. Prior to then, most homosexual men historically engaged in frottage, sometimes called "the Princeton Rub"; a sex act where two men rub their penises together. Homosexual men in media and pop culture are usually portrayed as analists, and many anti-gay groups tend to accuse all homosexual men of being analists. Homosexuals who engage in anal penetration are considered at high risk of contracting HIV, while oral sex and frottage carry virtually no risk of HIV and a significantly decreased risk of many other STDs. Anal sex is also associated with fissures, hemorrhoids, and polyps; while in extreme cases or long term engagement, anal sex can lead to incontinence, septic shock, cancers, and prolapse.
