Adaptogenre is a word coined by welsh.wl on Discord on December 23rd, 2024. Adaptogenre refers to someone whose gender can switch depending on who they are talking to or what the situation is. Adaptogenre is NOT gender-fluid, as it does not shift because of the ‘way’ someone is feeling. Adaptogenre is predictable once you know what gender you feel like when talking to a specific person. This also means that your pronouns, and possibly sexuality, will fluctuate. Adaptogenre people do NOT switch their gender to be rude or to exclude anybody. It’s involuntary and therefore they cannot control what gender they identify as when talking to certain people. The word ‘Adaptogenre’ comes from the English word ‘adapt’ and French word for gender/kind, ‘genre’.
