Kraftwerk is the most influential band ever, this is often disputed by teenage girls (who think it's The Beatles) and pretentious virgins (who think it's Radiohead). They were formed in the 1970s and are often described as a Krautrock, Electronic, Synthpop and Experimental, though to be fair with how unique and pioneering they are, its very hard to categorise them. There was also a spinoff band, Neu!, who also made a few bangers. Granted, its not for everyone; anything before Autobahn is regarded as 'unlistenable' by most, even those who like Kraftwerk. If you want to listen to Kraftwerk just to try it out, the albums are 'Trans-Europa Express', 'Die Mensch-Maschine' and 'Computerwelt' are probably the ones which are best to the untrained ear. Listening to something like 'Autobahn' is jumping into the deep end.
