The Buffalo Bills are an American football team in the National Football League. They have a long history of many losing seasons and fewer winning seasons that have always ended in tragic failure. They lost four straight Super Bowl championships in the ’90s, the first of which was narrowly lost on a last-minute field goal attempt that flew wide right by less than a yard. In the era that followed, the team found excruciating ways to miss the playoffs for 17 straight seasons. In recent years, the team has enjoyed success and national prominence, yet has continued to find ways to lose at critical moments of important games in their bid for their first NFL championship. Due to the self-inflicted nature of many of the Bills’ worst losses, locals will sarcastically say the team is “Billsin’” whenever a terrible play (or series of plays) turn the game in the opposing team’s favor.
