A Pejorative term used by the larger Sri Lankan Tamil Diaspora to describe Puloly which is a suburb of Point Pedro in Jaffna. The term is believed to have originated on Instagram in the 2020s by several Tamil pages devoted to Sri Lankan culture and the wider Diaspora. Point Pedro is a heavily colonized area of Northern Jaffna, with Puloly having the reputation of suffering the worst effects of colonization. Pulolistan refers to the culture of the area which is characterized as snobby, chauvinist, raunchy, paranoid, highly secretive in a malicious way, patronizing, reckless, not caring about safety, violence towards women, highly cherry picked religious beliefs, extreme veneration of colonizers, colonial mentality, extreme belief in the supposed inherent superiority of English, and mocking. There is also a prevalence of incest in Puloly, as cousin relationships are common including first cousin romantic encounters.
