Performing an action with no effort put in and simply leaving it to chance whether you get a good outcome. Commonly used in sports, particularly basketball, to refer to inexperienced players who, instead of putting effort in, aiming and such, they simply throw the ball at the hoop and hope it goes in. Can also be used for other sports, like in baseball when you are just swinging the bat at the baseball and hope it hits instead of trying to aim it, or any other sport. Derived from the term, “going out on a limb.”
