An electronic music genre created and pioneered by Atlanta producers MexikoDro and StoopidXool. It started to rise in popularity on Soundcloud around 2015 but never really took off for it to be mainstream. The genre was being popularized by artists such as Playboi Carti and Summrs at the time. The most famous song made in the plugg genre is "Gassed Up" by Nebu Kiniza. The music video of the song has over 25 million views on YouTube. Plugg beats often feature their signature producer tags, such as "Plugg.wav" that became a meme trend in 2023 known as the "Pluh sound effect". Beats in this genre tend to have bouncy Hi-Hat patterns, simple but catchy melodies, distorted synths and a combination of hard hitting 808s and kicks. There are multiple niche subgenres that got created via underground beat producers adding their own twist to simple plugg beats, such as dark plugg, emoplugg, ambient plugg, vamp plugg - just to name a few.
