Lovewashing (a compound word modeled on "whitewash"), refers to beliefs and behaviors that are used as an attempt to oversimplify complex issues by proposing that love should be sufficient to address any given situation. This is most often used superficially, where what is invoked are the aesthetics of love and not the actual emotional labor required to ensure that love is truly being embodied, communicated and received. Little to no considerations are given for the complexe competencies required for love to be truly cultivated and almost all attention is place on the theatrics of love. Often used by people who are unwilling to look at the implications of their behaviour, unwilling to take responsibility for how their behaviour is incoherent with their professed beliefs and who, above all else, want to preserve a positive self image.
