Beltane or Bealtaine, meaning 'bright fire', is an ancient Gaelic outdoor sex party, held on May 1st or May Day to celebrate the beginning of summer and the end of winter. The party would normally last for 24 hours, with food, non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages available for people to consume, with most people remaining in a state of undress, taking part in sexual activities, such as threesomes, gangbangs, or orgies. It would normally take place within a forest, wood, or grass area, sometimes near a lake or a body of water, with enough clearing for small open bonfires in fire baskets, or on the floor surrounded by large stones to stop spreading.
