hur·ri·quake /ˈhərēˌkwāk/ noun A rare and unprecedented meteorological phenomenon characterized by the simultaneous occurrence of a hurricane and an earthquake, often leading to widespread astonishment, disruption, and intrigue. A situation or event displaying an extraordinary collision or confluence of disparate elements, often inciting both awe and confusion. August 8th, 2023, Los Angeles found itself in the eye of a literal and figurative storm, as it experienced a hurriquake - a hurricane strong enough to blow the Hollywood sign into a new font, coupled with an earthquake that made the Walk of Fame stars twinkle in broad daylight. Etymology: Early 21st century, blend of "hurricane" and "earthquake." Coined to describe hurricanes and earthquakes that happen at the same time.
