Chronic blame shifting, not taking personal responsibility to the point of the coombsing being pathological in nature. They invent grand conspiracies in order to project blame. Eg My partner didn't leave me because I'm abusive and controlling. It must be that girl I met once 7 years ago who made a conspiracy to ruin my life and make my partner leave me!' Or 'My father sold me this car 2 years ago because he knew it would break down and ruin my chances at a job today. He always hated me.' Projecting all failures in life to anyone or anything outside of the coombser's own self in order to protect their fragile ego. Almost always the coombser is abusive and manipulative to people in their life but need to feel important and in control. Coombsing often results in embarrassing public outcries where they use coombsing to further manipulate others, to try and cover up the original abuse and coombsing. They think, when others hear about the coombser's original bad behaviour, the public audience may feel sorry for the coombser and buy into their projections, manipulations and lies. The coombser also feels this might mitigate anyone believing their victim(s), if they victimize themselves first and so embarrassingly. It will be pathetic public displays of self pity and hypocritical and fake victimization of the coombser, by the coombser themselves. In short, coombsing is pathetic and abusive blame shifting to protect a fragile ego.
