Matthew McConaughey gained popularity for his rom-coms. Even though he loved the roles, he wanted to be rebranded. Therefore, Matthew took a hiatus from appearing in rom-com films until he was offered a lead role in The Lincoln Lawyer, followed by Killer Joe, Bernie, The Paper Boy, Mud, and Magic Mike. These movie offers were back-to-back, giving the actor the "rebranding" he was holding out for. Renaissance is defined as "rebirth or revival" allowing Matthew McConaughey's new brand to be known as the mcconaissance.
