(noun) acronym for World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms. An web-based platform that seeks to connect organic farmers and people looking to travel and have a work trade experience. This sometimes, but not always, takes the form of human trafficking and modern day serfdom (modified slavery). Young people oftentimes are tricked into this being a great opportunity to travel the world but then once they are onsite they quickly realize that the endeavor they signed up for is not at all what it was advertised as. Working conditions can range drastically, and provisions made by the host can be downright uninhabitable. Hosts are not required to pay their Woofers, and thus we have modern day slavery.
