When things have gone in a bad direction and are no longer manageable, this describes the situation. Similar to the British term "pear-shaped", it is the opposite of squared away. When it's a total mess, it's fucktangular. (First heard around 1992 when an unnamed Scoutmaster at Camp Pomperaug (looking at you, Xans) observed the condition of his troop's campsite following a bad ice storm overnight and muttered, "Well, this is looking utterly fucktangular. Let's start getting it squared away.")
