Degen is old shorthand term for a Degenerate. Today, its main use is in the Cryptocurrency community to describe an individual who engages in risky, speculative buying and selling without doing any research. It is also popular amongst gamblers who use the term to describe a card player, especially in Blackjack, who hits when they shouldn’t and holds when they should hit, therefore muddling the cards that the other players would have gotten.
