Lizard Squad is a notorious hacking group that first gained notoriety in 2014 when they launched a series of DDoS attacks that took down the online gaming networks of Xbox Live and PlayStation Network, causing significant disruption for users over the Christmas period. The group has claimed responsibility for a number of high-profile cyber attacks, including targeting the Malaysia Airlines website, the website of the UK National Crime Agency, and the website of the Malaysia Communications and Multimedia Commission. Lizard Squad is known for using a variety of techniques to carry out their attacks, including botnets, social engineering, and DDoS-for-hire services. Members of the group have been arrested and charged with various cyber crimes, but Lizard Squad remains active and continues to pose a threat to organizations and individuals around the world.
