Gamera is a giant turtle monster created in 1965 by Daiei Films, rivals with the creators of Godzilla, Toho. Gamera, currently, has three eras. In the Showa Era, gamera is first seen in the b&w film Gamera The Giant Monster, or Gammera The Invincible. Gamera had twelve consecutive films, eight of which were Showa. The Showa Era consists of, Gamera The Giant Monster, Gamera vs Barugon, Gamera vs Gaos, Gamera vs Guiron, Gamera vs Jiger, Gamera vs Viras, Gamera vs Zigra and Gamera Super Monster. Then the Heisei Era introduced three more, Gamera Guardian of the Universe, Gamera 2 Advent of Leigon, and Gamera 3 Revenge of Iris. The final Gamera film was made in 2006 and went by the title, Gamera The Brave, and is, at the moment, the only Millenium Era Gamera movie. Gamera is thought to be a rip-off of the classical monster Godzilla, and it makes sense, Godzilla was realeased in 1954 and Gamera was realeased in 1965.
