Slang term for "cutie pie" or "handsome boy." Originating in the poorer neighborhoods of Rochester, NY in the early to mid-1990's during the rise in popularity of the rap/hip-hop group, Wu-Tang Clan and the Japanese/Asian influence that their fame brought to the Western New York region. Bishounen, meaning handsome boy in Japanese, was shortened to the slang term, "bish," in the Rochester, NY area and was widely used for a number of years as a compliment or term of endearment throughout Western New York and the Southern Tier (New York) regions. Although this term may be used for either gender, it is more typically used when referring to a female.
