A common strategy in the southeastern United States, where a native wasp is captured and released inside somebody's dwelling at a predetermined time to force them awake. Most commonly a paper wasp or mud dauber, but occasionally a much more aggressive yellowjacket. The wasp will harass any sleeping guests ultimately preventing returning to sleep.
