A creature from Scottish lore something like the bogeyman resembling an old man who comes down the chimney at night to kidnap or torment bad and naughty children. If a child gets taken by the bodach, he/she is gone forever. He is used by parents to frighten bad children into good behavior. He'll only bother bad and naughty children. The best defense to keeping the bodach from coming into the house is by putting salt in the hearth since he can't cross salt.
