A "pasticcio" is a "mess". It comes from a culinary recipe that mixes up various ingredients to obtain something messy but delicious. In this case, though, "pasticcio" is used to indicate something very messy and complicated, be it a problem to solve or a very untidy room. There also are adjectives such as PASTICCIONA (fem. sing) or PASTICCIONE (masc. sing) that indicate someone that made something messy, or stupid. PASTICCIONI is the plural. A PASTICCIACCIO (a bad mess) is usually used to talk about politics and political intrigues.
