1) A port city in Southeastern Ukraine in the Donetsk Oblast on the Sea of Azov. This was the largest city on the Sea of Azov prior to 2022. In 2022, Mariupol was besieged and completely destroyed by Russian forces in a brutal three month long siege. The Russians committed a slew of horrific war crimes such as bombing a theater sheltering children in the siege of Mariupol that have caused international repulsion. Over 22,000 Ukrainians were killed in Mariupol during the siege, and thousands fled the city. 2) To completely destroy someone or something after brutal, prolonged, and nonstop battering, whether physical or mental.
