Vegan cheese. Back in 2016 a woman on twitter had a big rant about how vegans should't call a plant based substitue for cheese vegan cheese, because in her opinion it is not cheese. It went viral and vegans all over the world started using the word as a joke. Everyone thought the rant was hillarious. Even companies that make vegan cheese, posted pictures of their product with the changed name. Since then there were some serious considerations and petitions over the world to prohibit "dairy" names for vegan products, the biggest attempt being "The Dairy Ban" in the European parliament of 2020 highly pushed by the dairy industry. In 2021 the ban failed and there was no prohibition. This is why new vegans are less and less familliar with gary, but it should be written in history as something original and fun among the struggles of emerging vegan movement.
