The act of going out of your normal way to make someone else happy, even if it harms you in some way. similar to: "biting the bullet" For example: - You buy a bag of gummy bears, and a friend tells you their favourite ones are the red gummy bears, so you eat anything but the red gummy bears so you could give them to your friend, even if you also like them. - Almost all the lines at the grocery store are really long, except one, and you decide to wait in the long line since you're not in a hurry and you don't have a lot of groceries. Which makes you have to wait longer, but might make it easier for someone else. - You're in the middle of an exam, and notice a student struggling. The teacher gets pulled out of the classroom and you don't know how long they will be gone for, but you still decide to whisper the answers to the struggling student.
