1. An operating system kernel originally created by Linus Torvalds. The Linux kernel is often bundled with GNU software, and this combination is known as GNU/Linux. 2. (colloquially) Any of the many desktop and server operating systems built on top of the Linux kernel, commonly bundled with a package manager and handy preloaded software.
