A privateer is a private person or ship, which carry arms to protect themselves from pirates, that engages in maritime warfare under a commission of war by a sovereign or delegated authority, empowering the privateer to carry on all forms of hostility permissible at sea by the usages of war. Also popularized by Linus Tech Tips as a more sublte version of Cyber Pirating. On the WAN Show his viewers, that use Ad Blockers, got offended, when he called their action a form of Pirating. So he started using the word privateer.
