Despite the common use of the word, moroi means several things. Looking it up in a romanian dictionary you find a few definitions, one of them (roughly) translating to: ghost of a dead infant that has not yet been baptised, the ghost of a man who got assassinated or murdered, that died in an unfair way, or who was buried in a shallow grave, without a burial. (can also mean tall lanky person, senseless evil person, or a just mysterious person, but nobody cares about it) Long story short it usually means a ghost, and not a vampire. And strigoi also means ghosts... Just saying. The vampire thing appeared because it can also be a ghost that drinks the milk and blood of cows, but that aint no vampire, that still a ghost.
