When the vertebrae in one's spinal column wears down or is damaged to the point where they need fusion to repair the area. It is commonly referred to as "scrapple neck" throughout Northern New Jersey and Pennsylvania. It is rumored that the discarded vertebrae,connective tissue and cartilage can be found in many early Pennsylvania Dutch Scrapple recipes.
