Rawat is a surname used by Kshatriya-Rajputs mainly in Uttrakhand and Rajasthan as they are descendants of Rajputs.In Past Rawat was a title given to "A warrior who can fought with 10 elephant infantry's at once" or someone who can use fought with 2 swords. They must have to come under 36 kuls(clans) of Rajputana ex:Rathod,Chauhan,Sisodia,Chand,Katoch etc,many uses their kul(clan) as their surname but some uses it as just a clan.Kumaoni Rawats are descendants of Rathod clan and Garhwali Rawats are descendants of Chauhan clan.
