Anu is a given name and surname found independently in several cultures. In India, Anu means an atom. It is derived from the Sanskrit word "paramaanu". The Finnish and Estonian name is derived from the Karelian variant of the name Anna, which became popular after Kersti Bergroth's play Anu ja Mikko of 1932. Anu is the name of the sky god in Akkadian (the Semitic language of the Assyrians and Babylonians). Anu is the name of a Sumerian god. It means "the Heavenly One"
