In 1984 Former Vice President in the Carter administration, Walter “Fritz” Mondale ran as the democratic nominee and lost every state expect for his home state of Minnesota and The District of Columbia. A similar scenario Occurred in 1972 with George McGovern. Despite Mondale losing in a landslide, he was still a well respected Political figure all the way up to his passing in 2021.
