1. An astrological sign (the crab) which one may attain as a sun sign by being born between 21st of June and the 20th of July (roughly). Many astrologists believe ones astrological sign has an influence on ones personality and behaviour. 2. A collective term for a range of conditions involving genetic mutations in cell division genes, resulting in an abnormal mass of tissue (called a tumour) that can split off (metastasise) and roam to other parts of the body and interfere with crucial body functions, resulting in declining health and if left untreated, eventual death. Diagnosis - the name of a cancer usually comes from the organ from which the original malignant tumour stemmed from. (e.g skin cancer). This classification can be further divided into the specific tissue. (basal cell carcinoma, melanoma) Prognosis - As well as a diagnosis, cancers also have stages of progression, which indicate how much it has grown and spread, and therefore ones chances of survival. Prevention - A man whose father and grandfather had prostate cancer may decide to have his prostate removed after he has had children to prevent prostate cancer later on. Screening and blood tests are also ideal ways to identify cancer before they grow and induce symptoms. Treatment: Once cancer has taken hold, there are many treatments to reduce symptoms and destroy existing tumours. These include surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
