When walking up a slight incline, the gluteus muscles stretch and contract more regularly and with more veracity. This action produces lactic acid in the gluteus which stiffens the tissues in that area. The stiff tissues prop the gluteus up and make it appear more prominent and more glorious. This is colloquially referred to as hike butt.
