The GNU Bourne-Again-Shell is a shell as defined by POSIX. It is usually used inside the context of a GNU system, or another system using the GNU coreutils. It is an improved version of the original Bourne shell. Since it is the default shell used in a lot of GNU/Linux distributions, it is also the most popular one. That also makes it the shell of choice for shell scripts.
