"Deadplace" refers to the attempt to define a person's origins attributed to them by their place of birth, rather than accepting an individual's right to self-define where they are from and how they self-identify. The origin of "deadplac(e)"-ing stems from "deadnam(e)"-ing of transgender people, wherein others attempt to define someone according to a name that is in fact "dead" in that it is no longer used or recognised as appropriate to the individual's own story.
