A set of three or more notes played simultaneously, traditionally (at least, in the Western sense) made up of a root, third and fifth. The main kinds of chords are major, minor, diminished and augmented. However, there are many different variations on even just these. Particularly in jazz and funk, sevenths, ninths, elevenths and thirteenths are stacked on top of each other. There are variations on these too which alter some of the other scale degrees.
