Gorilla in the Mirror Syndrome or GOMS is when try and have a serious argument with someone, but they don't fully understand the reason for the position or assume you're position is different to what it actually is and think you're position is just selfish, vindictive or evil and carry on arguing with you based what they think you're position is rather than what it actually is. Quickly dismissing every point you, no matter how carefully it's done. An example is Cathy Newman when interviewing Jordan Perterson. Taken from the theory that Gorillas probably are self-aware like the other great apes, however when a Gorilla is shown a mirror it will just continuously attack it before it has a chance to realise what its actually looking at.
