An e-girl (short-term for “electronic girlfriend”) is typically associated with (pre-)adolescent women with a strong online presence. Usually they are involved in activities such as playing videogames, watching anime, dancing to pop-music or other similar genres and can be predominantly found on websites such as Twitch or Tik Tok. Some might also engage in romantic or sexual roleplays with other people over the internet. The word has long since been used as a derrogatory term associated with slut-shaming, used to define girls who cater to a specific group of (mostly) heterossexual males typically identified as gamers, weeaboos and incels ("involuntary celibates"). Donning 'sexy' anime-inspired, a big clevage or sometimes adopting a docile, innocent personna, these so-called e-girls are deemed attention-seekers. They go online for the sole purpose of getting male attention through direct or indirect flirtation and voyeurism, which results in them being praised, hit upon or even offered monetary donations through different platforms. Another common synonym is gamer girl.
