When your child is physically, mentally or emotionally growing and temporarily regresses. Some forms of regression might be tantrum throwing, babbling nonsensical words, eating/sleeping a lot, and driving you and your childcare providers crazy. Similar to premenstrual syndrome, GSS comes in cycles and can be before, during or after a growth spurt...causing great confusion to you, and making you question everything about your own coping skills. GSS remedies are bubbles, puppies, unicorns, sleeping and eating. Key identifiers are: You no longer know your child. You find yourself clawing at the walls. Your child has bigger chipmunk cheeks, is eating a lot and/or wants to go to sleep. Positive attributes: Your child is growing & learning.... and it is only temporary. :-)
