Gay Romance within the censorship of China. The origin of the word comes from an ideological propaganda poster back in December 2015, but became an internet meme after the air of "Guardian" China is very strict when it comes to censorship these years which includes gay romance. The censorship states that it is not allowed to discriminate nor promote homosexual relationships on television. However, these years Chinese BL novels has gained much popularity and producers has bough tons of rights to make live adaptations of them. In order to pass censorship, producers has used many "solutions" which includes removing the romance, changing genders and even turning a romantic couple into real brothers by blood. This was until the release of the web series "Guardian" in which the drama found the gray area to adapt homosexual relationships by showing the romance, without saying its romance. This caused the birth of a whole new genre called Socialist Bromance. Gay Romance within the censorship of China.
