The word insanity has been in use in English since the late 16th century, and means “the condition of being mentally deranged.” Since then, the term has evolved to mean “extreme folly or unreasonablenes". A clever remark often attributed to Albert Einstein, who probably never said it is that insanity may be defined as “doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.” The term can also be associated with "having irrational expectations" and with being "delusional".
