Allied Irish Banks formed in 1966 when the Munster Leinster, Provincial and Royal Bank of Ireland merged. The AIB merged with TSB Northern Ireland in 1991 to form the First Trust Bank. Today (2005) the bank is known in Ireland as AIB, in the north of Ireland as First Trust Bank and in GB as Allied Irish Bank (GB)
