Cannabis Comrades are weed smokers/consumers who subscribe to a range of ideologies, typically on the "progressive" side of politics (including such sorts as anarchists, socialists, democratic socialists and communists). These are "regular" everyday people who enjoy cannabis for a variety of reasons; medicinally and recreationally. They are the antithesis of the typical pothead or stoner trope, being as a "Cannabis Comrade" can be anyone from a casual recreational user, to someone whose life has been changed from medicinal use. Cannabis Comrades are usually good-will ambassadors, who call for widespread Cannabis Legalization. They may or may not be activists, but they all share a common love and enthusiasm for the medicinal and recreational benefits of jazz-cabbage. The phrase was coined to combat the negative, misleading stereotypes that have been long associated with cannabis users; especially as the misleading nature of those stereotypes have long been deployed in the fight against Cannabis Legalization.
