An electrical energy storage component similar to a battery(can be solid or liquid electrolyte) two metal plates for electrode and cathode with an insulating layer between them. and an electrolyte solution in the insulating layer to provide a path for electrons to move. and it's commonly used for smoothing AC or DC. power supply smoothing. and very popular in audio circuitry. Capacitors generally have a lifetime enormously longer than NIMH NICD or even lithium ION batteries. although much lower energy density than batteries. they have their advantages and uses in many applications
