The energy that drives human persons to seek completion in another. It is that actual energy that drives us and connects us to what we perceive as desirable, what we perceive as good, in particular insofar as we find it beautiful. The beauty of things (like sunsets), and the beauty of persons, are the typical objects of the erotic, or eros. Potentially, eros can lead persons to union with what is actually good for them. Ultimately, eros is oriented toward and seeks completion in the source of beauty as such, i.e. the divine or ultimate reality, and finds its deepest completion there.
