A nickname for the London based football club West Ham United. Founded in 1895, the roots of West Ham United go back to the company Thames Ironworks and Shipbuilding and Engineering based in East London. In the first years of the football clubs existance, the club was called "Thames Ironworks FC", usually known as "The Irons". The nickname stayed and is still used today, with the club never forgetting where it came from.
