The Mosquito Coast/Miskito Kingdom/Miskito Coast was a former British and English protectorate 1638–1787 (English), 1844–1860 (British) of the eastern coast of most of Nicaragua and parts of Honduras. Today this area is part of Nicaragua and Honduras and the culture on Nicaragua’s Caribbean coast is similar to that of former and present British colonies in the Caribbean, such as Jamaica, Belize, the Cayman Islands, etc. Also, English, Spanish and indigenous languages are spoken dominantly in this region.
