A word designed to end a conversation when the conversation has reached an impasse—When you are arguing with a friend or acquaintance and the conversation is going nowhere, and neither side is actually listening to the other side, or is, but simply cannot or will agree whatsoever, and the ongoing argument is angering and emotionally damaging one or both parties. At this point platypus is invoked by one or both parties as a peaceful means of ending the topic.
