A Jean Lafitte is a cocktail consisting of root beer and rum. It is named after the 19th century French pirate and privateer, who was an American ally during the War of 1812. The drink is sweet, strong, and smooth. When it is made with alcoholic root beer (such as a Not Your Father's Root Beer), it is called a Hard Jean Lafitte.
