Semidei: surname translating to Halfgod SEMI - half and DEI - god Origin: Corsica In the 1790's following the overthrowing of the Italian government by France, an emigration began from the island of Corsica. Some of those who sought their freedom from French rule culminated their exodus in the island of Puerto Rico. There in the mountainous southwestern region of the island, they broke ground and raised to the sky a heavenly crop of coffee. Present day surnames of SEMIDEI, PIAZZA, MERCUCCI, MATTEI, VERAY and others characteristically ending in "I", are part of the heritage of those hardworking Corsican forefathers. Alternate spellings are found; but these change the meaning SEMI-DEY SEME-DEI SEME-DEY
